Costa Rica – Caribbean Coast – January
Gladys and I spent a week exploring the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. The Caribbean side is much more primitive than the Pacific side.
Hiked the Grand Canyon – March
I hiked the Grand Canyon with my buddy, Peter Glynn. We hiked down South Kiabab Trail, stayed the night at Phantom Ranch, and hiked up the Bright Angel Trail out. It was a brutal hike. After we hiked out we went in to Flagstaff for steak dinner and a few beers to recover.

Fraternity Reunion in Scottsdale, AZ – April
Several hundred of us got together for an fraternity reunion in Scottsdale, AZ in April. It was great catching up with old friends and making some new friends.
Our home in Paraguay – May
I spent 11 days in Paraguay visiting with family and friends who I hadn’t seen in over a dozen years the last time I’d been there. One of the highlights of the trip was going to my buddy Gabriel Gimenez’s ranch in the interior of Paraguay. He showed me how he was growing a very productive grass feed for his cattle he brings to market. His home in the interior is very comfortable. He even has a wine cellar which is very unique for the area.

Guy’s weekend in Santa Fe, NM – May
My buddies Peter, Santosh and I went to Santa Fe, NM in May for a “Guys trip”. During the day, we explored the wilderness areas, checked into 10,000 Waves a famous Spa in the area, went out for dinner and spent the evenings drinking fine wine, telling stories, predicting the future and solving the world’s problems way past my normal bed time.

Crown King, AZ – June
In June I had a hankering to have a beer with my dad, and brother Dane at Crown King Tavern. To get there I rented a Jeep and we took the off-road trails behind Prescott. I hadn’t done that road since I was in college. Later on that same trip, I did some 4-wheeling up Schnebly Hill, outside of Sedona, AZ. What a spectacular view.


Grand Tetons and Yellowstone – July
Over the July 4th weekend, Gladys and I rented a car in Denver and went to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. We returned via Salt Lake City and spent a day in Denver exploring.


Hiking Oregon – July
Peter and I explored Oregon. We checked out Portland and Eugene, Hiked around Mt. Hood, Hiked the Oregon coast and hiked around the McKenzie River.

Exploring Colorado – September
Over Labor Day weekend I spent a week gallivanting around Colorado. I went to Estes Park, explored Rocky Mountain National Park. I later visited a buddy, Dave Dawson, in Leadville, and Dan and Abigail Prosser in Silverthorne.


Wedding Anniversary in Destin Harbor, FL -September
Gladys and I celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary in Destin Harbor, FL. When we arrived we found the kids had arrange for champagne and a box of chocolates in the “Admiral’s suite”. Gladys and I were both in tears, from surprise. Gladys couldn’t believe it was for us, so she asked me to read the card.

Miami – October
Gladys and I visited family and Friends in Miami over the Columbus Day Weekend. A highlight of the trip for me was boating with my buddy Tom Walker.

Northern California – October
Over the Halloween weekend, Gladys and I went to the Wine Country, then downtown San Francisco and stayed at my favorite hotel, the Hyatt Embarcadero. The next day we drove down Highway 1 and then to San Jose. I used to live in Northern California, so the trip brought back many memories.

Thanksgiving in Arizona – November
We had Thanksgiving dinner at my sister Shelley’s place. I pinged a bunch of friends prior to our trip and was able to catch up with some friends from Phoenix, that I hadn’t seen for 20+ years. I was able able to catch up with Dominique Laroche, Alton English, Rodney Tang, Scott Bynum, Robert Rivera, Mike Meschede and Carol Langdon (Patrick). We later went to Prescott to do some hiking and hanging out with my brother Dane and his family.

White Christmas in Colorado – December
Our family is having a very memorable white Christmas skiing, drinking hot chocolate, making snow angels and brewing a batch of home-brewed beer in Grandby Colorado, where Charlie and Elisa now live.

Galveston, TX – New Years Eve
We will bring in New Years at the San Luis Resort in Galveston, TX with a bunch of our Houston-based Brazilian friends we’ve known for 25+ years.
